We are currently in our 5th year of homeschooling.
Pausing here to say… I don’t feel old enough, mature enough, and certainly not wise enough to be saying that. (Seriously- where does the time go!)
Ok, back on track. Fifth year of homeschooling. While we are certainly making progress, I often feel at a loss. I find myself asking questions like:
Am I teaching enough? Are they even learning? What if I miss something? Will my children be well rounded? Am I using the right curriculum?
So when an acquaintance mentioned the video The Five Flavors of Homeschooling by Sonya Shafer- I had to check it out.
Sonya explains the 5 ‘flavors’, or avenues in which homeschoolers are generally taught… and I can’t express how reassuring this video was to me. There’s nothing spectacular about what Ms. Shafer shares… but I guess just knowing the teaching style that I feel more at ease using ‘freed’ me from feeling like I wasn’t enough.
In the Video, Sonya walks you through discovering if you would tend to teach best using the following methods:
Traditional, Classical, Charlotte Mason, Unschooling or Unit Studies
If you are new to homeschooling, or just feeling unsure- run over and check it out!
